Managing a parent's things from a thousand miles away
It's one of the most common calls we get. Mom just moved into assisted living, or Dad passed away, and the condo in Florida needs to be emptied. You flew down for a long weekend, but there's no way to sort, pack, and ship a lifetime of belongings in three days. Or maybe you haven't been able to get down at all.
We understand. Many of the families we help live outside Florida. Our job is to make the shipping part easier: we handle the pickup, sorting, packing, and shipping of the items your family wants, so they arrive at your home and your siblings' homes.
How to get started from wherever you are
- Call us at (561) 290-5616 or request a quote online. Tell us about your parent's situation and what needs to be shipped.
- Share what you know. A rough list of items, the pickup location, destinations, and any deadlines.
- Get a personalized quote for packing and shipping your items.
- We take it from there, with pickup, sorting, packing, and shipping to each address.
Information that helps us help you
The more of this you can share up front, the smoother things go:
- The pickup address and type of home (house, condo, apartment, or senior community).
- Who can provide access, such as a local relative, neighbor, building manager, or facility staff.
- Building rules. Many condo buildings have rules about pickup and delivery times, elevator use, or loading areas. Ask the management office, or let us know who to contact.
- A list of items and recipients, with photos if you have them.
- Your deadlines, such as a closing date, lease end, or the date the room must be cleared.
Coordinating with siblings
When siblings live in different states, it helps to choose one person to be the main contact and to agree on a written list of who receives what. If an estate is involved, the executor or personal representative usually needs to approve the plan. We can ship each person's items to their own address. See shipping to multiple heirs.
Working with the people already helping you
If a senior move manager, organizer, real estate agent, or estate attorney is already involved, we're glad to work alongside them. We often work alongside these professionals (see for professionals).
Keeping everyone on the same page
When several people are involved from different time zones, one shared list goes a long way. Include each item, who it's going to, and the delivery address. Send it to us with your quote request, and keep it handy for questions about which box belongs to whom.
